I find it so interesting that after all the time working on space-related matters as a career he chose to take a nap and sleep through the whole thing. I wonder if that means we really mellow out as we get older. That would be a good thing but I hope I would miss such a rare opportunity despite the temptations of a nap.
I'm very impressed that you can go home and write a Substack post, which would for me be the last minute and would cause intolerable panic and fretting. It takes me hours and hours over several days to write one of these darn things. I'm amazed you can produce a wonderful piece each week even at the 11th hour.
Total eclipses are rare IN THE US. Not world wide. They happen apparently every 18 months or so. But a total eclipse over the Pacific somewhere doesn't get much attention. There will be 7 in the next ten years.
I never put together that your Dad worked at Draper Labs. I used to fill orders for them, photostat materials, when I worked at EJ Ardon's in the 80's.
