When my kids first started trick or treating I’d get them into their adorable little costumes and take them around to all the houses where, carrying their plastic pumpkins, they’d bravely approach each door, ring the bell, exclaim, “Trick or treat!” and collect their candy.
the heartbreak of parenthood, how well we all know it, even if unintentional: "fitting me in felt like one more obligation.....". Love to you, in these strange and f***ked up times.
My beagle didn't get to go trick-or-treating, but took out a hairbrush, Outward Hound water bottle, got over the barrier to the dog food bags, and stole the television remote.
I love the anecdote about your two boys catching on to you. You should have known they are wiser than we think. When my son was five he said to me, "Mommy, Halloween is just not your day." Boy, was he right.
My son, the same age as yours, always fits me in for which I'm very grateful. He makes time for me during my visits. He never complains. At the same time, I follow him, meet up with him, join him wherever he is or going. I'm more like a tag along. But at least I'm there with him and that's the most important.
Wishing you, and all of us, much strength, courage, and hope today and every day.
The Provincetown videos are great. No wonder you settled there. On Halloween night, I charged all the grandchildren a Tootsie Roll tax. To distract myself today, I took the oldest one shopping for clothes. I'm now home and I think I'm going to take some Pepto Bismol and a sleep aid rather than torture myself with election returns. I hate that f**king bastard with everything I've got. Maybe I'll watch an episode of M*A*S*H first... Good luck to us all.
Oh, Hallowe'en, what fun that looks like in Provincetown. Sort of need that while we all eat our cheese and hold our breathe. The US election is topping our news over here in Oz even while we worry about interest rates, the "housing crisis" and politicians accepting upgraded flights.
What did Bette Davis, say? "Fasten your seatbelts, it's going to be a bumpy ride."
Loved that TikTok glimpse of the craziness, wow. Such inspired costumes. Alice seems to be doing well out of it and she didn't even need to go and knock on doors! That last photo is superb, hope that view helps while breathing.
Loved this!!!!! Take that walk on the beach, have some tea with Reeses's as a chaser. Save some for later......tonight is going to be more than a hand wringer.
Chocolate and peanut butter should not be within a yard of each other. I love that your Sita sabotaged you. So too were my machatunes=s- los suegreos-der shvigger. There ahpoult be many words to describe disobedient grandparents, in-law or not..
My co-worker loves Reeces cups, and both of her boys have peanut allergies, so she really cleans up at Halloween. She did say that early on, she had to coach her boys not to say, “I can’t have those,” when offered peanutty delights.
Ha ha ha....in the spirit of distracting you: that reminded me of Talking Heads, of course! And that reminded me that I once went and saw The Pretenders, because Chrissie Hyne, and found out they were supporting this "other" band who I didn't know about until then, i.e. Taking Heads.

Love to you, too.

And to you. Friend o’ mine 💕

Pepto and Tootsie Rolls. One hell of a dinner.

If you’ve got to be on a train to nowhere, this is definitely the best car to ride in.
Hm...I replied in the wrong place...not here. Strange.

Oh yes. ❤️
So good. Thank you! I look forward to your posts.
Thank you.

...and a few (too many) Reese's.
Absolutely
I'll trade you three wax lips for a Mary Jane or Squirrel Nut Zipper.
Excellent selection!

Such a wise woman!

I still prefer The Pretenders actually....
