So happy to hear you got a beagle! I hope Alice and you are wonderful company for each other and that she is house trained before the real winter sets in.
You are still luckier than my friend's friend who, when she got home from shopping, was welcomed by an overpowering stench. This is what happened:
This lady has a small dog (forgot to ask what kind). On that day, she turned her Roomba (the robotic vacuum cleaner, for those who don't know) on in the living room, then put her dog in her bedroom (so she would not upset the cleaning), closed the door and left.
However, her dog managed to open the bedroom door.
When she saw the robot roaming around the living room, she was so surprised that she dropped a load on the wooden floor. Then Roomba dutifully spread the shit all around the room.
The lady had to spend hours to clean the place, but of course the smell was persistent, so she had to leave all the windows open all night long.
Look , I’m sorry but I laughed as you wrote about the footstool. Also in that pic, did you check she wasn’t chewing on the table? I know you’re a more experienced dog owner and trainer than me but The Liability (standard poodle in a non-standard poodle cut) has taught me everything is up for grabs. Even door frames. Especially fabulous retro couches you have rescued from the Salvos, and library books and reading glasses you put down for a nanosecond.
I’m sure you’re much more canny than me but you know, you can’t be too sure.
Also if you have any tips for legal chewing items other than stuffed toys bought from the opp shop for the dogs to disembowel then I’m all ears… The Liability is four and I’m still practicing swiftly removing stuff from his mouth.
OMG, Alice is just too darn cute❤️!! I am tickled BEAGLE for both of you!! We are on our 7th! Once they get ahold of you, there is no letting go!! Jenny, our current, gave us a run for our money, aka Nature's Miracle, but I “think” she's got it now…….only took the better part of 6 months…..BIG time Congrats to you both!! I was over the moon happy when I saw this in my in box🐶💞🐾!!
Georgia was the worst to house train, she would pee every 5 minutes, I tried all the regular training for a few weeks, nothing. Tying her to me on leash is what worked (Umbilical Cord Training). Only dog I had to do it with, she was a bit older like Alice, 5-7 months when we adopted her.
Why for a moment I thought that chewing picture was Bosun. He's 13+, deaf and almost blind with a great nose by the way. Enjoy the ride! (OK, it usually means he needs a tummy pill.) Can't think of a better winter companion.
You know, of course, that my love of beagles AND insightful, hilarious writing are thrilled with this, right?
Inevitable, whether we're dog people, cat people, bird people, or "other" people: Nature Abhors a Vacuum and it gets filled sooner or later.
Alice looks adorable. Welcome back to Wonderland.
It cheers my heart that you are enjoying this lovely dog!

Did I mention it was the dead of winter?

I enjoyed reading this!
We’re about to adopt a 10 month old fox terrier/jack Russel cross, with much excitement and not a little apprehension!
ahhhh, my world is back on its axis. welcome [newest version] DGDD/Alice
I'm so glad you got a beagirl. The adventure will never stop. I will enjoy your stories and think that my vomitorious cat is much less interesting.
