Please excuse me cluttering your mailbox twice this week, but I promised to share good news if I had it, and I certainly do have it today.
It is possible to have a literary crush, and Brevity is one of mine. Both the magazine, containing brief nonfiction pieces by careful, skilled writers, and the blog, containing, “daily discussions of craft and the writing life,” are as close to home as I’ve found since finding myself out to sea this last year.
So I submitted, and the overly-brilliant, incredibly kind editor, Heidi, steered me with an expert hand.
She’s a really good trainer.
Today my first-ever submitted piece came out, in Brevity Blog. (Click that link to see the piece - I can’t repost it in full here. That’s naughty.)
If you’re interested in hearing more from the community that steers the waves toward Brevity, I highly recommend Allison K Williams’ and Sharla Yates’ Craft Talks. They are ridiculously inexpensive (but don’t tell them I said so), and incredibly valuable.
Anyway, thank you for being here for the celebration!
