I’m sorry you’ve suffered with your spins and falls but glad you finally found help. But you are so funny and able to take life experience and make people laugh. That’s a gift. Keep up your writing about what life throws your way.

Marjie -- you have a knack for tea and migraines. So sorry about the migraines but you are a champ when it comes to perseverance. Glad you have wrestled back some control. I love your blogs.- Rene

Hey, Marjie, I'm really sorry about the VMD and how long it took to get an actual diagnosis and help. However, doesn't it feel f'n AWESOME to finally KNOW that there's something going on that can be treated?? That you're not just a crazy older lady (well there's that too but that's not the problem)? I know how awesome it feels because I spent more than a year dealing with something similar before finding a Dr. Not An Asshole. Congratulations on your find!

Marjie, I do feel bad about the VMD, but the way you wrote about Dr. Not An Asshole tests and conversations had me cracking up (sorry!!). I think you should try riding your bike in PTown, but only in a straight line, no right turns!!!! :) Just make sure if there are people in front of you scream "incoming!!" so you don't knock anyone on their ass.

Oh also… because you made such fun of it and I laughed so much I sort of skipped over the whole VBD thing (probably the wrong initials) but it must suck pretty bad. Almost as bad as those specialists who couldn’t actually diagnose it.

Well…. That was worth saving up until I had the time to read it!! (I got a new job wherein I have absolutely no spare time now… it’s called teaching. )

I am impressed that you are not impressed by specialists. Keep up the good work! I’m sure deep down they enjoyed your sassy replies!

I’m sorry you cannot ride a bicycle. Or tricycle, evidently. What about a motorised trike?

I looked up the link to Peña Palace. Naturally I want to go there and inspect the Queen’s Office in person. (I am disappointed that my office is shared with 10 other people and bears no similarity to the Queen’s other than the name. But such is life. … oh darn, I’ve gone and quoted that stupid bush ranger bloke people here think is some kind of hero. )

I guess roller skating and rowing are also out of the equation…

The winter spice tea sounds like a cousin to my chai tea. Will have to try some.

Seriously considering borrowing your description of VMD and showing it to my husband. Sounds like this might be a missing puzzle piece for him. (He gets his medical care through the Veterans Administration, which can be a whole 'nother level of assholery.)

I don't think I've stopped to say so before ... Your writing is a beacon of light in a bleak landscape of others who believe themselves qualified to do so. LOL. Honestly, I've come to realize that I smile with anticipation when Pieces of String lands in my inbox. This edition, with your laser focus on the joys of the medical system did not disappoint. I hope that you truly did "asked him, in all seriousness, what exactly he’d done for me so far to make the “more” in that sentence count." There is nothing funny about migraines or VMD and I just hope that writing gives you nearly as much satisfaction as reading your writing gives me. -K

Wow, Marjie. What a story. You can make something awful funny but still be poignant and thoughtful. I hope you surround yourself with a stellar team of Dr. NOAs so you can continue to drink coffee and do many of the things you enjoy. Doesn't sound like bad plan to stay off a bike. I haven't ridden mine for three years and I haven't even fallen. And I don't want to! Or get hit by a car.

those tests! I could see you spinning around in the dark, whishing and whooshing this way and that! But truly, it's crazy how a doctor can affect your life......frightening to think if you would have just accepted that not drinking caffeine was the best answer. I think you should still dream of riding that cute bike and who knows, maybe some time it can come true.

Marjie, your Vestibular Danger adventures leave me breathless and almost thankful for my own puny walking/sleeping pains. Thank you for the snickers and guffaws.
