“I thought you hated Christmas,” wrote a friend of mine on Facebook after I posted a picture of my house all lit up and festive, “Blink twice if you need help.”
Thanks, Marjie, you perfectly articulated my disdain for this time of year. I’ve never been able to make my family understand why I don’t enjoy the season, though I do enjoy time spent with them: feasting, drinking, cooking, playing games, and the like.
I love that stonework! At first glance, I thought it was an undulating set up of hills and valleys, but then I saw it wasn't! I love quirky things like this, and may consider copying it for an outdoor patio, just to drive my OCD friends who like straight lines crazy!
And that alleyway of shops looks like a fun place to explore!
Ah, OK, well I learnt things! Horseshoe crabs have blue blood and help ensure vaccines are safe- but you probably knew that- AND they're older than dinosaurs....that's pretty cool.
Speaking of cool...right, shrinkage....I was confused for a hot (OK cold) minute as I knew it was winter over there. The dressing up I completely understand and am always totally on board with, the dressing down/undressing, yeah nah...it goes against my life edict: never be cold.
If we don't hear from you, have a fabulous Christmas, hopefully with no bells and no carols. And fingers crossed that any other festivities that occur IN your house is because they were invited, not coz they were passing by. :-)
This is the one time of year I loosen up my general vague misanthropy, because "Lookie all the Pretty Lights!" Whatever gets us through the Long Dark of Winter...
Huh....I have some questions....so um...why are they running in their underwear? Isn't it COLD in the northern hemisphere right now? We are having our hot summer but you guys are in winter, no?
Also...is that a road they're running on? Does that road continue right up to the houses? Just curious about that one.
And, Holly Folly Christmas; that looks like fun. I'd bet you a million bucks (AUD not USA) that there are NO drag shows in Mount Gambier. (Although, I reckon I could totally embrace that look....I still mourn the big hair of the 80s)
Finally, I'll just say I love all the pics of Ptown...that little insight into another way of living...so cool, as were those huge reindeer with lights! I bought some littler reindeer for my living room but mine don't have lights....
This was such a great post, Marjie. I loved seeing the audacity, craziness, and sacrilege of holiday time in Provincetown. Geez, what would Jesus say? I hope he'd laugh at people having a great time. In the meantime, we'll carry on with the nonreligious pleasures such as friends, family, food, and beverage. Hopefully time to just hang out too.
Love that you included my personalized singing birthday wish video! So cool of you to think to do it! Special!
Of course!
Thank you for being your sensibly snarky self! And I’m so glad to be in touch with a lover of Ptown. All this makes me happy!
Merry Merry!

Yup. There are good parts! None of them are religious.
Wishing you a funny and peaceful holiday season - and what to say except for I am fascinated by your town......hilarious and unique.
Something tells me you’d love it here!

Look at pictures of cobblestone in Spain and Portugal!

And to you!

Exactly!

Yeah, religion. Pftt.
Oh, one more: what on earth is a horseshoe crab?
A horseshoe crab is this! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Horseshoe_crab
It is indeed cold - hence the "shrinkage" they'll tell you. ;)
The road passes by the house. I do not want them all IN the house, thank you.
GAWD!!!! The love Ptown!!!!
It's quite a place!
