Reminds me of my Bubbie, who held a sugar cube in her teeth, or some jam in her mouth, and drank her Orange Pekoe from her tea "gless". She didn't have a fancy, noisy setup like you. We got her special "gless" cups.
Hey, I lived on 110th between Broadway and Amsterdam in 1981-82! Were you still there then? I mainly remember the fruit stores and cheap pizza place on the Broadway side, and hearing the cathedral bells at all hours. Which, for the information of those who did not live there, lost its charm pretty early on.
FYI, what I heard about Russian caravan tea is that it is basically a blend of Darjeeling and oolong. Or at least, that is how one can approximate it at home.
