You're fooling no one. You don't get a puppy or mini horse or ferret, name it Fifi and be on your way. You rescue a multipally traumatized and visually alarming creature that has been rejected by all sensible potential adopters... because, Reverend Mother, that is how you roll. Deny it all you like. You'll be putting out Tik Toks of her giving french lessons by December.

My heart hurts for you. She has a chunk of yours and and and... she's a project and not what you need / want. This is where that thing about the universe sends you what you need makes me really wonder. The project dog or self care. And does the universe like ripping your heart a new one so you can learn? Hugs to you.

Aw, the Flying Nun, loved that show! Bertie is extremely cute❤️. Bulldog statues and chickens be damned………and what's another project?!? I believe Bertie has found her person💞.

I read this on the Chicago metro and cracked up. The other passengers stared at me but I didn't care. I read it again when I came home and again it cracked me up. I think this dog has found a home and you have found a pal. She needs you, chickens, bulldogs, sprinklers, flowerpots be damned.

Happy birthday to your father. He looks very happy with that great colorful cake in front of him. I hope he and all enjoyed it.

Hi Marjie, exposure therapy for the dog I guess. I hope you keep the dog of course 'worth it for the material'. Reading about other dogs with anxiety makes me feel better about my own dog and all the walks which end abruptly when she freezes and refuses to go any further. Also as a chicken mother I can attest to all chickens being able to be photographed alternately cute and scary.

I really am commenting to tell you I'm ready to become a paying subscriber to support your work but can't find how to...? Stacey

Jesus, Marjie, I'm still laughing about the punk goth soul from hell AKA possibly a chicken!!! I just hope that thing doesn't make its way over to the Tufts area and I run into it because I would make a sonic boom sound like a squeaky toy. Seriously, I think you know what you need to do for Bertie and most important, for yourself. You have to think of yourself and your life-style first, even though you already love her. I know it's hard.

I will never not think of all those words you used to describe the chicken-thing when I see even slightly reminiscent birds - maybe for the rest of my life. Hopefully, I will also not cease to laugh out loud, as I am doing now, whenever I have such thoughts. Thank you. Oh - and also, good luck with that sweet doglette. No good advice can come from me on that topic.

awwww......I'm sorry you had vertigo because that's the worst.....and I'm sorry you almost drowned in the tub and made all of those weird noises.....but I'm happy you've tentatively called her a "goddamned dog".....and Happy Birthday to your dad too of course.

It’s a Barker/Biter Those tiny skinny ones are correct to be afraid of everything. But you’re stuck with it for the next decade so adapt. It was too late once it slept in your lap.

(New topic): So nice that the BD cake strawberries match his suspenders. A thoughtful, caring touch.

Marje, keep the dog.

I am not entirely sure that is/was a chicken. Definitely ready for trick or treating, though.

Well...I'm not saying there's anything karmic in this or anything but my memory is that Sister Bertrille ran around/flew around helping people and would it be a long bow to draw to say that Bertie might be here to do the same...

Just musing out loud...

Thank you for adding to my vocabulary yet again. Now I know what their head dresses were called. Although I'll probably forget by breakfast time.

And, Bertie has good sense. I have always been scared of chickens. (I can admit this here coz it's sort of anonymous.) I don't know why, it is embarrassing but they do emit those funny noises and aren't they descendants of dinosaurs?

Good to hear you are on the mend and feeling more upright and stable.

I suppose there is a dog somewhere that doesn't react to a strange chicken coming towards them. I've never encountered one. My dog reacts to audio stimuli. Like a UPS truck several blocks away. Or two people walking down the street talking quietly. Or to a squirrel somewhere nuzzling her baby.

Wouldn't give him up for the world. Just sometimes wish ear plugs worked.
