Do I seem like someone who’d fish?
But this week I’m overseeing the final (bah-hahahhahaha) clear-out of the Wellfleet house for renters. I’m nervous, because you never know what will or won’t work for strangers in a house you’ve lived in without thought for almost thirty years.
All bedding and towels and kitchen stuff needs to be put away, for the umpteenth time. It migrates when I’m away. A friend of mine has an oven that turns on without her help, and we’ve decided it’s being caused by “poultrygeists,” but I’m not sure what you call spirits that move linens around. Material-izations? Fabrications? Will-o’the-wash’n’drys?
Anyway, this is it, the deadline is here and there’s no more getting ready. I must now be ready which, it turns out, is stressful.
On Thursday, I’ll be meeting Xfinity/Comcast at my new and future place in Provincetown to hook up the service they swear already exists. Then I’ll receive the wrong desk on a temporary basis (they’re terribly sorry, they put the wrong top on and it’s a foot too long, but they hope it will fit in the interim until it can be replaced), spend the last night in Wellfleet before the cleaning people come to make it presentable, and then Friday morning bright and early all the furniture arrives in Provincetown.
Is Provincetown ready? Absolutely not! But the furniture people and my city dining room will not store it any more, and so we are “done enough” to make life just a bit more annoying for those poor men doing the work by putting a lot of brand new stuff in their way they can’t get dirty.
I do not yet have a certificate of occupancy, so I’m not moving in, I’m staging it, are we clear?
All this to say, more on various submissions, courses, and so on next week.
I hope you’re all enjoying these last days of July, that your tea is cold, and your days lazy and easy.
Lotsa luck! I have moved about 10 times in the last 14 years… moving, or even staging, isn’t as fun as they say. Although it does make you whittle down your possessions, which I highly recommend.
Or not.
I’m surprised you even found time to write a Not Really post. Good for you!
As my Dad would say, go on and strike a blow for freedom. (Obvs I have no idea what that means but I reckon you’ll take the general vibe of it…)
I can't wait for the "staging" process to be over in PTown and you are actually moved in and show pictures!!!! This is such an exciting new chapter in your life, Marjie! In the meantime, go fishing :)
