He is afraid of dogs. Ask Lisa, she had a whole conversation about it with him after a show a few years ago. She told him to “make like a tree” and they riffed off of it for a few minutes. “So you mean, like a Dogwood…” I can still hear him saying it.

It was Gracie’s birthday and when he found out he reached in his bag and gave her a bottle of shampoo from the Mandarin Oriental. I also told him my friend who had introduced me to him had “a tumor in her head the size of an olive” and that quoting him about her tragic circumstances somehow made things better.

I know this about him and dogs. Understood, but not forgiven!

Also, agreed, never meet your heroes. Thought, I did interview one of my favorite writers a few weeks ago and she was a delight.

It doesn’t surprise me in the least that you made him laugh. That’s the stuff you’re made of and a heck of a lot more!

Awww, thanks!

A regular day in Marjie’s life. No surprise at all that you were able to make him laugh. This whole exchange made me smile.

LOL - well not a REGULAR day...

only you could surprise me so delightfully, bringing forth a real laugh. Well done. Perfectly said. And you made David Sedaris laugh!!!!

You have the knack, you have to keep using it! The unexpected sentence, the twist in the tale.

Love you. (PS I really am sorry he didn't at least grin at the statue....)

Love this, Marjie. I can picture this whole exchange. Bet he'll stroll by again some time...

Wouldn’t that be nice!

I guess he isn't much of a dog person or into private art shared with the public. One of these days, I might be able to rub Nellie's head.

He is for sure NOT a dog person. That doesn't mean I"ll forgive the slight... ;)

I’m so envious. I’ve been a David Sedaris fan for years because of his ability to make me laugh out loud while reading his stories. I can distinctly recall having difficulty getting through his story “Big Boy” (that I think was in the book “Me Talk Pretty Some Day”) because of the tears of laughter rolling down my face.

When he's good he's great.
