I’ve been spending my first nights in my new home, joined after a couple of days by Thing 2 and his She Thing, which has been lovely. They have two giant dogs, including Leo the Lab x Dane. At about 125 pounds, what he lacks in brain cells he makes up for in sweetness, and the ability to wreak destruction simply by walking past an object.
There is no heat and no air conditioning in the house, which is fine temperature-wise but challenging humidity-wise in a storm-filled July weather pattern. Big, booming thunder events, heavy downpours, flood alerts, yet the house remains oddly leak-proof despite, according to the insurance company that has given me only until October to do something about it, sub-standard exterior walls, windows, and structure.
Pffff.
We started today by clearing the backyard of the considerable amount of unruly plant life, the Things doing most of the heavy work. If anyone is missing their umbrella or empty beer can we’ve found it, along with some suspicious plastic baggies.
Several neighbors stopped by to introduce themselves, and unlike the other times neighbors have done so, not one asked, “Are there birds in there?” while gesturing vaguely toward the house. I mean, we don’t open the closet doors, but not everywhere in there.
We then planted the solar lights along the fence and called it done. A friend captured us walking along Commercial Street.
Provincetown is a place that cheers and accepts all people for what and who they are. That is worth celebrating.
I wish you all a good week. Leo and I will be discussing what to write about next. This week, my brain is apparently on vacation and nowhere to be found.
How wonderful. Cheap labor is hard to come by.
congratulations!!!! A new chapter. What a great place to get to live.
